How to choose a rowing machine?

Rowing is one of the most effective home workouts: it engages most muscle groups, improves your fitness, and is a smooth and gentle form of exercise.

Our current range in this category includes water and magnetic rowing machines from MERACH.

Quick selection based on what you need

1) I want the most realistic rowing experience possible

Consider a water rowing machine – resistance increases with stroke intensity and the ride feels “like on water”.

2) I exercise in my flat and want the quietest possible operation

often leads to a magnetic trainer (smooth, quiet, suitable for regular home use).

  • MERACH Q1S – magnetic, load capacity 160 kg
  • MERACH Q1S Pro – magnetic, 16 resistance levels + app, load capacity 160 kg
  • MERACH R15 – magnetic, max. resistance 40 kg, 16 levels

3) I want progress and fine tuning of the load

Look for models with multiple resistance levels (typically 16) and possibly with an app.

  • MERACH R15 – 16 levels + max. resistance 40 kg (good for gradually increasing the load)
  • MERACH Q1S Pro – 16 levels + app (convenient training control)

4) I need to save space

look for a foldable design / folding option.

5) Do you have multiple users of different heights and weights?

Focus mainly on load capacity and a reasonable reserve.

5 most important parameters

1) Resistance type: water vs. magnetic

Water: natural feel, resistance increases as you pull (great for a “rowing experience”).

Magnetic: usually quieter and easily adjustable, practical for apartments.

2) Resistance range and number of levels

The basic model is sufficient for normal home use, but if you want to push your performance, you will appreciate more resistance levels (more precise training settings).

3) Weight capacity

Consider the weight capacity as a “minimum” – it is better to have a reserve (the machine is more stable and durable in the long run). In this category, there are models listed for up to 160 kg and even 180 kg.

4) Storage

If you don’t have permanent space at home, folding is essential. Some models are designed for quick folding/collapsing.

5) Apps and training functions

If you are motivated by statistics, goals and training “on your phone”, look for options with apps and wider resistance settings.

Recommendations based on your needs

Magnetic rowing machines (quiet home training)
Water rowing trainers (more realistic “rowing” feel)

Mini checklist before ordering

Do I prefer water (feel) or magnetic (quiet residential) resistance?

Do I need more resistance levels (for progress), or is the basic level enough for me?

Do I have enough weight capacity (ideally for another family member as well)?

Will I be cleaning the machine often? Then I need to consider folding.

Do I want motivation via an app? Then I choose models that mention it directly.
